When emptiness fills an occupied space
with remnant memories of those before,
it’s then that vacancy is resident.
Numbered tables entertain empty seats,
the waiting scene anticipates a crowd;
meanwhile, my solitude is evident.
Am I the hollowness of which I speak?
Am I the company of solitude?
Am I the room, or just its elephant?
